We recognize that nursing is an integral part of the health services of the country playing a very vital role in the curative, preventive and promotive aspects of health care in the community.
We believe that the basic course in nursing is a formal educational programme, which should prepare nurses of first level positions in nursing in both the hospital and community. It is the foundation on which the practice of nursing is built and on which further professional education depends.
We believe that the preparation for nursing is more than acquisition of technical skill and experience. It requires the virtues of sympathy, loving care, compassion above all an understanding of the dignity of the individual as a human being, without regard to race, religion, class or ability.
We recognize that the training of nurses should make them well acquainted with the prevailing health problems and various programs of national health policies.
We believe that we have a responsibility in keeping the students to develop pride in the profession and in guiding them with respect for their future in nursing. At the same time we have a responsibility to the student and to the society to make provision in the program for the continued development of the student as an individual and citizen as well as a nurse.
