Education plays a pivotal role in the society. Technical education and education that empower ourselves to directly serve individuals under different forms of medical need are crucial for human and social welfare. As our social setup is based on diferent categories of people, naturally our desires and aspirations are multi-layered. COVID-19 pandemic has brought the Indian system to center stage. Though the country has a population of 1.3 billion, we spend only 1.5% of our GDP on healthcare which places the country amongst the lowest in the world. Further, 30% of our population are devoid of any financial protection of health. Data suggests that India has 1.4 beds per thousand people, 1 doctor per 1445 people and 1.7 nurses per thousand people. It is to be noted that 75% of the healthcare infrastructure is concentrated in metro cities of the country and only 27% of the total population resides there. This indicates that the rest 73% of the Indian population is not having suitable basic medical facilities. Primary medical centres located in different parts of the country require at least 3000 doctors and supporting staff. The NSS0 data shows that 70% of the Indian population is pushed into poverty every year due to healthcare expenses. This overall picture of the country's health sector vividly explains a social committed intervention by competent private parties to empower interested members of the society to get themselves involved in healthcare sector. NGI is sure to play a determining role in shaping the health service sector of the Northeastern region.
